Scientific basis

Why trust this instrument.

Based on Seligman's PERMA model as operationalized in the PERMA-Profiler (Butler & Kern, 2016), this assessment uses 23 independently developed items rated 0-10 to measure Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment, plus contextual indicators of health, negative emotion, loneliness, and overall happiness. The items were written by NOESIS to represent the published constructs; this is not the original PERMA-Profiler.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does this assessment measure?

It measures well-being across five PERMA pillars: Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment — plus health, negative emotion, loneliness, and overall happiness.

How does this relate to the PERMA-Profiler?

This assessment measures the same PERMA constructs defined by Seligman (2011). All items are independently developed by NOESIS.

Is this test scientifically validated?

It is built on Seligman's PERMA model as operationalized in the PERMA-Profiler (Butler & Kern, 2016), with published scale reliabilities of α = 0.68-0.92 for the represented constructs. The items are a NOESIS adaptation — independently written and not independently validated — so treat results as structured self-reflection.

What do high and low scores mean?

Each PERMA pillar is scored separately, so the point is the shape, not the total: a life strong in accomplishment but weak in relationships flourishes differently from the reverse. Negative emotion and loneliness count inversely — lower is better there — while health and overall happiness give context to the five pillars.
