Theory of Basic Human Values
Also known as: Schwartz values · Value circumplex · 10 basic values
Theory identifying ten motivationally distinct value types — self-direction, stimulation, hedonism, achievement, power, security, conformity, tradition, benevolence, universalism — arranged in a circular structure where adjacent values are compatible and opposing values conflict. The model has been validated in over 80 countries through the European Social Survey and underpins value-based approaches to career counselling and organisational culture.
