Character Strengths Profile (IPIP-VIA-R)IPIP-VIA-R
~20 min · 96 問 · 無料の簡易レポート
A 96-item profile across 24 character strengths, from Curiosity and Gratitude to Prudence and Valor. Four items per strength, half of them worded in reverse so that agreeing with everything does not produce a flattering result. This is a profile, not a ranking: it shows which qualities you recognise in yourself most readily, and the useful reading is the shape of the whole set rather than any single number.
A 96-item profile of 24 character strengths — from Curiosity and Gratitude to Prudence and Valor — with balanced positive and negative keying.
- Find which strengths you recognise in yourself and which you do not, and see them together rather than one at a time. The strengths at the top of your profile tend to be the ones you use without being asked, which is what makes them worth knowing.

The IPIP-VIA-R (Bluemke, Partsch, Saucier & Lechner, 2021) measures 24 character strengths from the Values in Action classification (Peterson & Seligman, 2004) using 96 public-domain items from the International Personality Item Pool — four items per strength, two positively and two negatively keyed. The scales were psychometrically refined for content validity, balanced keying, essential unidimensionality and cross-cultural comparability. Reliability was established in quality-filtered quota samples from Germany (N = 476) and the UK (N = 474), with Cronbach's alpha ranging from .45 to .74, McDonald's omega from .57 to .84, and two-to-three-week test-retest reliability from .53 to .84. Factor analysis across the 24 scales yields three global dimensions that capture the essence of character strengths. This is a profile, not a ranking: the useful reading is the shape of the whole set rather than any single number.

レポートが答える質問。
Does beauty stop you, or pass you by?
This is about being interrupted by something well made or naturally striking, not about taste or knowing about art. A high score describes someone whose attention gets caught. A low one describes someone who notices later, or when told, and loses nothing by it.
Can you let yourself be cared for?
The items ask about both directions, and the harder one is usually receiving. Giving affection can be a way of staying in charge of the exchange; accepting it means letting someone else matter that much. A gap between the two is worth sitting with.
Do you belong to the group, or just work near it?
This is loyalty and pulling your weight in something collective, not sociability. A high score often shows up in people who dislike parties. A low score can mean independence rather than distance, and the items about working alone will tell you which.
Is an unfamiliar thing interesting or tiring?
Curiosity here is breadth of appetite: how many different things can hold you. It sits close to Love of Learning and is not the same. This one is about the pull toward the new; the other is about staying with something long enough to know it.
Do the rules bend for people you like?
Everyone says they treat people equally. The items that carry the weight are the reversed ones, about advantage and about treating people differently when you dislike them. A high score here is a claim about consistency under pressure.
What do you do with a grudge?
Not whether you get hurt, but what happens after. High scorers let the account close; low scorers keep it open, which is sometimes accurate bookkeeping and sometimes a weight. The items do not judge which.
Is what you have visible to you?
Gratitude is a habit of noticing rather than a mood. It is one of the few strengths that tends to move with practice, so a low score reads more like a current state than a fixed trait.
Where does your mind go when the outcome is unknown?
This is expectation, not cheerfulness. A high score describes someone whose default forecast leans favourable; a low one describes someone who rehearses the bad outcome. Rehearsing has real uses, and this is not a scale where low means broken.
Is humour something you do, or something you enjoy?
The items ask about producing it, not appreciating it, and specifically about producing it when things are grim. A low score says you are not the one who lightens the room, which is different from having no sense of humour.
What happens to the things you start?
Finishing, specifically, and finishing when the way is blocked. It is the strength most likely to be praised and least likely to be enjoyed, and a high score often comes with a cost the items do not ask about.
Is your word the same when it is expensive?
Promises and secrets are cheap to keep when nothing is at stake. The reversed items are the ones that matter: lying to get out of trouble, and betraying someone who trusted you. A high score is a claim about the expensive case.
Do you look for the other side on purpose?
Weighing and reconsidering, rather than intelligence. A high score describes someone who slows down before deciding. It can be a strength or a way of never deciding, and this scale cannot tell the two apart.
Is helping something you do, or something you do when convenient?
The reversed items ask about impatience with other people's problems and about kindness that keeps score. Those two are what separate a disposition from a transaction.
Can you make a group work without taking it over?
The items are about getting people to work well together, not about authority or being in front. A high score with a low Citizenship score describes someone who organises groups they do not feel part of, which is a real and specific position.
Do you learn things nobody is asking you to learn?
Learning outside of any requirement, for its own sake. It is close to Curiosity and differs in duration: curiosity opens the door, this one keeps you in the room.
Do you need the room to know?
Not low self-regard, which is a different thing entirely. This is about whether your accomplishments need an audience. A low score is not arrogance either; some people simply enjoy being seen, and the items say so plainly.
Do you reach for a new way, or the way that works?
This is appetite for doing things differently, not artistic talent. A low score describes someone who is content with the method that already works, which in most jobs is the more useful disposition.
Do people bring you the hard questions?
Wisdom here is defined from the outside, by whether others come to you for it. That makes it the most socially confirmed of the 24, and the one where self-report is on the weakest ground.
Do you think it through, or find out?
Careful choosing and consequence before action. A low score is not carelessness; the reversed items are about liking risk, which is a preference rather than a failure to notice it exists.
Can you not do the thing you want to do?
Discipline and the ability to forgo a present pleasure for a future good. It is the strength people most often wish were higher, and the items about spending and eating make it concrete rather than abstract.
Do you read the room before you speak in it?
Sensing what others feel and knowing what to say. A high score is not the same as warmth, and does not have to be used kindly. The scale measures the reading, not what you do with it.
Do you believe the whole thing means something?
Deliberately wide: it covers religious belief and a secular sense of purpose alike, and one of the reversed items is about life feeling meaningless. A low score is a description of a worldview, not a deficiency in it.
Do you say it when it costs you?
Standing up when there is opposition, and speaking when the result might be bad for you. Both items name the price, which is what separates this from simply having opinions.
How do you meet the morning?
Energy and appetite for the day ahead. It is the strength most tied to physical state, so a low score is worth reading alongside sleep, health and how the last few months have gone rather than as a fixed trait.
最も効果的な方。
Someone writing about themselves and running out of words
A personal statement, a profile, an answer to what are you good at. The problem is rarely a lack of qualities and usually a lack of names for them.
Someone whose review said good things they did not recognise
Being told you are patient or fair by people who work with you, and not being sure whether to believe it. Seeing which strengths you claim for yourself is one way to hold that up against what others see.
Someone deciding what to protect in a busy period
When time is short, the qualities that get dropped first are usually the ones that were never named. Knowing which ones are yours makes them easier to defend.
よくある質問
Is this the VIA Survey?
No. The VIA-IS is a separate instrument licensed by the VIA Institute on Character. This one is the IPIP's public-domain representation of the same 24 strengths, rebuilt from a different item pool by different authors. Expect the two to broadly agree and to differ in the details, and do not treat a result here as a result there.
Why are my scores not compared to other people?
Because no per-scale averages have been published for this version, and inventing them would be worse than going without. Your score on each strength is the average of your own four answers, so a high score means you recognised those statements in yourself, not that you scored above anyone. That is a smaller claim than a percentile and it is the one the data supports.
Half the statements are negative. Is that a trick?
It is a safeguard, and a deliberate one. If every statement were flattering, a person who tends to agree would come out strong on all 24 and the profile would say nothing. With half the items reversed, agreeing with everything cancels out. It makes the questionnaire slightly more tiring to answer and the result considerably more informative.
Should I aim to be high on all of them?
You will not be, and that is the point. A profile where everything is high usually means the answers described an ideal rather than a person. The strengths you score lowest on are not faults to correct; they are simply not the ones you lead with.
Will my results change if I take it again?
The top and bottom of the profile tend to hold. The middle moves, because a lot of strengths sit close together and a small shift in mood or recent events reorders them. If you retake it, compare the shape rather than the individual positions.
