Twenty-seven statements about the sides of personality most tests politely skip: the taste for strategy over openness, the conviction of being special, the ease of feeling nothing after a hard word. Psychology studies these three together as the Dark Triad, a term coined by Paulhus and Williams (2002): machiavellianism, narcissism and psychopathy, measured here as continuous traits that every person carries in some degree, not as categories anyone falls into. This assessment is a NOESIS adaptation built on the construct behind the Short Dark Triad (Jones and Paulhus, 2014); the 27 items are NOESIS's own wording and have not been independently validated, so read the result as structured self-knowledge, not as a diagnosis of anything. If you have taken the HEXACO personality test in this catalog, the two connect directly: what its Honesty-Humility factor compresses into one integrity score, this test opens up into three separate traits with three separate stories.
Machiavellianism, narcissism, psychopathy: three continuous traits, read as a trade rather than a verdict.
- Locate your position on each of the three Dark Triad traits, see which one does the most work in your everyday decisions, and get an honest account of what your pattern costs you and what it seems to buy you, in a private report written for self-knowledge rather than judgment.

このツールを信頼できる理由。
Based on the Dark Triad model of Paulhus and Williams (2002) in the brief operationalization of Jones and Paulhus (2014), this assessment uses 27 independently developed items — 9 for each of the three traits, 5 reverse-keyed — on a 5-point agreement scale. Each trait is reported as the mean of its 9 items, from 1.00 to 5.00, and there is deliberately no total score: the reference construct defines and validates the three subscales separately. The three bands per trait are NOESIS interpretation labels on the raw mean, not cutoffs of the reference instrument, which publishes none because it is dimensional by design. The traits measured are subclinical: continuous dimensions on which the whole population varies, studied in community samples rather than in clinics. No norms and no reliability figures are inherited, and the items have not been independently validated. Treat the results as structured self-knowledge.

このテストの背景にある理論。
Dark Triad of Personality
Framework grouping three socially aversive but subclinical personality traits that had been studied separately: machiavellianism (a strategic, manipulative approach to people), narcissism (grandiosity and a need for admiration) and psychopathy (impulsivity combined with low empathy and remorse). Paulhus and Williams (2002) showed the three overlap without collapsing into one another, which is what makes them worth measuring together. Jones and Paulhus (2014) later built a brief measure with equal coverage of the three, the operationalisation this catalog's adaptation follows. The traits are dimensional and subclinical: everyone sits somewhere on all three, high scores describe a trade rather than a disorder, and research has argued that what they share is, in mirror image, the Honesty-Humility factor of the HEXACO model.

レポートが答える質問。
Do you treat people as players in a longer game?
A high score reads as strategy: information held back, alliances chosen, patience for the right moment. It wins negotiations and quietly taxes intimacy, because people can tell when they are being managed. A low score means you deal in the open, which costs you a few contests and buys the kind of trust schemers never get to spend.
How much of your engine runs on admiration?
High scorers walk in expecting to matter, and that expectation is partly self-fulfilling: confidence recruits attention, attention feeds confidence. The bill arrives when admiration pauses, criticism lands, or someone else gets the room. A low score reads as modesty that protects you from that crash and sometimes underprices what you actually deliver.
What does your nerve cost the people around you?
This dimension mixes speed and coldness: acting first, feeling later, sometimes not feeling much at all. In an emergency it looks like courage. Over the length of a relationship it can look like absence. Most people score low; a higher score is less a verdict than an inventory of where impulse and distance are doing your deciding for you.
最も効果的な方。
The negotiator who always wins something
They leave every deal ahead and some relationships behind, and they have started noticing the second part. A trait profile shows whether the strategy is machiavellian calculation, plain confidence, or a blind spot about other people's ledger.
The person who just got called a narcissist
The word arrived in an argument, or on social media, where it means everything and nothing. Twenty-seven items make it discussable: a continuous score on grandiosity and need for admiration, next to two traits the accusation usually confuses it with.
The one who feels calm where others feel guilt
After the conflict, everyone else is still shaken and they are already at dinner. Whether that steadiness is resilience, distance, or the early price of not letting anything in is exactly what a psychopathy dimension, read honestly, can help take apart.
よくある質問
Does this test diagnose psychopathy or narcissistic personality disorder?
No, and it could not. The three traits measured here are subclinical by definition: ordinary dimensions of personality on which the whole population varies, studied in community samples, not in clinics. A high psychopathy score means you endorse more impulsivity and less remorse than most people who answer honestly; it is not a forensic finding. A high narcissism score is not narcissistic personality disorder, which is a clinical diagnosis made by a professional through interview, not by a self-report questionnaire. If a result worries you, that concern belongs in a conversation with a mental health professional.
Could my employer see my results?
No. This test is flagged as sensitive in NOESIS, and sensitive results are never shown individually to an employer without your explicit consent given for that specific execution, which defaults to off. That is a platform rule, not a courtesy. The same flag is why we mark this test as unsuitable for recruitment or personnel selection: an unvalidated self-report of socially aversive traits is not a hiring instrument, and we say so plainly.
Why would anyone take a test about their worst traits?
Because the traits are already in the room; the only question is whether you can see them. These three dimensions predict real patterns: how you negotiate, when you charm, what you do after winning a fight. People who score high somewhere usually already pay the costs without the vocabulary. Naming the pattern is what makes the choice possible: you can keep the strategy and drop the collateral damage only if you know which is which.
Is this the Short Dark Triad (SD3)?
No. The SD3 (Jones and Paulhus, 2014) is the best-known brief measure of these three traits, and this assessment is built on the same construct with the same structure: three traits, nine items each, scored as a 1 to 5 average. But every item here is NOESIS's own wording, written independently, and the adaptation has not been validated in its own right. The SD3's published reliability and norms belong to the SD3. If you need a validated instrument for research, use the original; if you want a serious, honestly framed self-assessment, this is built for that.
Is a high score bad?
It is a trade, and the report treats it as one. Each of these traits persists in the population partly because it sometimes works: strategic caution wins negotiations, confidence attracts opportunities, cold nerve is useful in emergencies. The same dispositions also carry documented costs, mostly paid in trust and in other people. Your report describes both sides of the position you actually hold, without applause and without a verdict.
How does this relate to the HEXACO test in this catalog?
Directly. Researchers have argued that what the three dark traits share is, in mirror image, the Honesty-Humility factor of the HEXACO model: sincerity, fairness, modesty, and indifference to greed. The HEXACO test reads that common core as one score; this test splits the dark side into its three distinct strategies. Taking both gives you the summary and the decomposition, and they make a genuinely useful pair rather than two versions of the same number.
This catalog also has a Dark Tetrad Test (SD4). Which of the two should I take?
They are different things and the difference is easy to state. The SD4 test is the published instrument: its 28 items were written and validated by the researchers who named the field, it measures a fourth trait as well, everyday sadism, and it carries reliability figures computed on those very items. This assessment is NOESIS's own, 27 items written in house on the three classic traits, with no independent validation of its own, which is exactly why no reliability figure appears on this page. If you want the instrument used in research, or you want the fourth trait, take the SD4 one. This one remains a serious, honestly framed self assessment of the three, and if you have already taken it your report stands. What you should not do is compare the two score sets side by side: different items and different wording mean the numbers are not on the same scale.
