Learning styles are the most popular idea in education that the evidence does not support. Study after study has failed to find that matching teaching to somebody's declared style improves what they learn. So this test lives in the playful part of the catalogue, and it is honest about why. What the questions do capture is real: your preference. You do have a way you would rather approach something new, and knowing it is useful for choosing how to spend your own study time, even though it does not predict how well you will learn. Eight questions ask you to rank four approaches in the order you would actually take them, which is harder to fake than agreeing with a statement. Eight more ask you to rate how true something is. When does trying it first cost you?
When the first attempt cannot be undone. In software, a failed attempt is free and this approach wins. In anything with a real cost of error, the same instinct becomes the expensive one, and the fix is not to change your preference but to notice which situation you are in.
Why do you keep drawing your own diagrams?
Because you need the structure before the parts, and most explanations are written in the opposite order. Building the picture yourself is slow and it is also the point at which you understood it, which is why the diagram is often useless to anybody else.
Why does explaining it work so well?
Because you cannot fake a sentence you do not understand out loud, and the moment you stall is the exact location of the gap. The catch is that this approach requires another person, which makes it the one most easily unavailable when you need it.
What does text give you that the others do not?
Control of the pace. You can stop, go back and reread the sentence that did not land, none of which is possible while somebody is talking. That is a real advantage for difficult material and no help at all for anything that lives in the hands.

Are learning styles real?
Preferences are real. The claim built on them, that matching how you are taught to your declared style improves how much you learn, has been tested many times and has not held up. That is exactly why this sits in the playful part of the catalogue rather than being sold as an assessment.
Then what is the point of taking it?
Knowing what you reach for first is useful when you are choosing how to spend your own time, which is a different question from how somebody else should teach you. If you know you stall on written manuals, buying a course with a manual is a predictable waste.
Why ranking questions rather than all ratings?
Because agreeing with statements produces people who prefer all four approaches equally, which is useless. Ordering four options against each other forces a real answer, and those questions carry more weight in the result.
Should I avoid the approaches I score low on?
No, and the report says so. Some material only comes in one form, and for physical skills no amount of reading substitutes for a first clumsy attempt regardless of your preference.
Can I use this to teach my class or my team?
As a conversation about how people like to work, yes. As a basis for teaching each person differently, no, and that is the specific claim the evidence does not support.

That is common and it is a better description of reality than a fixed style. Answer for the subjects you find difficult, which is where the preference actually shows.
