Work Engagement Check

Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (Schaufeli & Bakker, 2003)のNOESIS適応版

~3 min · 9 問 · 無料の簡易レポート

Nine statements about how work actually feels from the inside: whether it gives you energy or takes it, whether what you do still means something to you, and whether the work can still pull you in. Work engagement is not the same as liking your job or putting in long hours — it is the state of having energy for the work (vigor), caring about what it is for (dedication), and being able to sink into it (absorption). This assessment reads all three, plus an overall engagement score. It is built on the work engagement construct of Schaufeli and Bakker (2003). The items are a NOESIS adaptation — independently written and not independently validated — so treat results as structured self-reflection rather than a validated diagnosis.

Does your work give you energy, meaning, and focus — or just take them? Nine statements put a number on each.

発見できること
  • Separate the three things 'engagement' usually blurs together — the energy you bring to work, the meaning you find in it, and the pull it has on your attention — and see which of them is carrying your working life and which has quietly gone missing.

科学的根拠

このツールを信頼できる理由。

Based on the work engagement construct of Schaufeli and Bakker (2003), this assessment uses 9 independently developed items — three each for vigor, dedication, and absorption, none reverse-keyed — on a 5-point frequency scale, scored as raw 1-5 means (one per facet plus a total) with NOESIS-labeled bands. The items were written by NOESIS to represent the published construct and have not been independently validated; the original scale's psychometrics do not apply to them. Treat results as structured self-reflection about your working life.

収束的妥当性
収束的妥当性Applies to the reference construct, not to these items: the three-facet structure of work engagement was validated cross-nationally for the original scale (Schaufeli, Bakker & Salanova, 2006, 10 countries). The NOESIS items have not been independently validated.
弁別的妥当性Work engagement is theorized as the positive antipode of burnout — a persistent affective-motivational state, distinct from momentary mood at work and from the evaluative judgment of job satisfaction.

科学的基盤

このテストの背景にある理論。

Work Engagement

Theory that work engagement is a positive, fulfilling, work-related state of mind — the motivational antipode of burnout — with three facets: vigor (energy and stamina while working), dedication (significance, enthusiasm, and pride in one's work), and absorption (being fully immersed in work). Within the job demands-resources tradition, engagement is fed by job and personal resources and predicts performance and well-being; it is a persistent state, not a momentary mood and not the evaluative judgment of job satisfaction.

ターゲット

Anyone with a job they want to look at honestly — because work feels flat and they want to know where the flatness lives, or because it consumes them and they want to know whether that is engagement or something else.

レポートが答える質問。

  • Taking all nine together — how alive is your working life?

The total is the mean of everything you answered, so it moves slower than mood — one bad sprint should not dent it, and one good week should not inflate it. Read it together with the three facets underneath: a middling total made of three middling facets is a different situation from a middling total hiding one strong facet and one empty one, and the second pattern is the one worth acting on.

  • Does working give you energy or take it?

Vigor is the energy account: whether you start with something in the tank, whether demanding days deplete you or engage you, and how much resistance you feel before starting. It is usually the first facet to sag under chronic overload — often before you would call anything wrong — which makes a low vigor score with intact dedication an early signal, not a character flaw.

  • Does what you do still mean something to you?

Dedication is the why of the work: significance, enthusiasm, pride. It is the facet most resistant to bad weeks and the most serious when it goes — energy can be rebuilt with rest, but meaning rarely returns by resting. High vigor with low dedication is a strong engine with nowhere it wants to go; if that is your shape, the question is not how to work more but what would be worth the energy you clearly have.

  • Can the work still pull you in?

Absorption is the pull of the work on your attention: losing track of time, staying with a task without forcing it, finding it hard to put down mid-stride. It cuts both ways — fed by vigor and dedication it is the pleasure of deep work; standing alone, with the other two low, it can simply mean the work has swallowed the foreground. The facet says how strong the pull is; the rest of your profile says whether to trust it.

最も効果的な方。

Someone who used to love this job

The memory of caring is vivid; the caring itself is harder to locate. Reading vigor, dedication, and absorption separately shows what actually left — the energy, the meaning, or the pull — because each one asks for a different repair.

Someone whose weeks blur together

Nothing is wrong, exactly. The work gets done on autopilot and Friday arrives without leaving a trace. A flat profile across all three facets has a name, and naming it beats another quarter of 'fine, thanks'.

Someone who cannot put work down

The hours are long and mostly voluntary, and the people around them have started asking questions. The profile helps separate work that pulls — high absorption fed by vigor and meaning — from work that has simply colonized everything else.

よくある質問

よくある質問

What is work engagement — is it just liking my job?

No. Liking your job is a verdict; engagement is a state. Job satisfaction answers 'is this a good deal for me?' — engagement answers 'is there life in me when I do it?'. The construct, described by Schaufeli and Bakker, has three parts: vigor (energy and stamina while working), dedication (meaning, enthusiasm, and pride), and absorption (the ability to sink into the work). You can be satisfied and flat, or engaged and underpaid — which is exactly why the two are worth measuring separately.

Is this the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES)?

No, and we say so plainly. The construct and its three facets follow Schaufeli and Bakker (2003); the nine items are NOESIS's own wording and have not been independently validated. The original scale's published statistics do not apply to these items. If you need a validated instrument for research, use the official UWES under its own license terms; if you want a structured, honest way to examine your own working life, this is built for that.

My absorption is high but my vigor is low. What does that mean?

It is a profile worth taking seriously: the work still captures you, but it no longer feeds you. People in that state often keep delivering — absorption looks like performance from the outside — while running on reserves. It is a common shape of early overextension, and the honest next question is what restores your energy and when you last had any of it. If the pattern persists alongside exhaustion, a burnout measure reads that side directly.

Can I be too engaged?

Engagement itself is a healthy state — the research tradition treats it as the positive antipode of burnout, not a mild form of workaholism. The distinction is what drives the hours: engaged people work because the work pulls them and can stop without withdrawal symptoms; compulsive workers work because not working feels wrong. A high absorption score with difficulty ever switching off is worth an honest look at which of the two you are reading.

Will my employer see my answers?

Not from this. This is a self-assessment you run for yourself, and the result is yours. If your organization runs NOESIS assessments as part of a corporate program, that operates under separate consent and aggregation rules which are shown to you in that context.
