Temperament as formal characteristics of behavior — the energetic and temporal features of actions rather than their content. Six dimensions describe the structure of behavior: briskness (speed and tempo), perseverance (tendency to continue after stimulation ceases), sensory sensitivity (perceptual threshold), emotional reactivity (intensity of emotional response), endurance (capacity to sustain prolonged stimulation), and activity (need for external stimulation). Rooted in Pavlovian nervous-system typology but extended to adult self-report.
